In an industry where there are 20 salons within a few miles of each other, it is important for you to create a brand for your salon or spa that is sustainable. So how do you do that? Where do you start? Let's start at the beginning. Who are you? What does your brand represent? What is special about you and your brand? What do you have to offer that other salons don't? What is your promise to your clients?
These are just a few of the questions you should be asking yourself when you are branding your business. Listen! Anyone can go anywhere and get a great haircut, right? But why should they come back to you? What makes you special? Here are just a few quick tips to get you going in the right direction.

1. Define your brand. Think about what you are trying to convey to your customers. Think about the type of services you are offering and how they will speak to your target market. Think of how you want to promote your business, and how your brand will speak to your customers before you do. How do you want your clients to feel when they sit in your chair? You also want to think about what makes you unique so you can be a stand out next to your competition.

2. Identify your target market. Who is your perfect client? What do they do for a living? Where do they live? How often do they visit your salon? If you can envision the perfect client, who would they be and what would they look like. Once you figure out who your target market is you can aim and shoot.

3. Be authentic. This is super important. Be yourself and be true to your brand. People want to do business with people they like and people they trust. No need to do a song and dance to get people to do business with you. If you are kind, honest, and stay true to yourself, and you stand solid in your brand, you will have no problem attracting new clients. Besides who we are affects who we attract!

4. Create a mission statement. Once you define who you are and what you have to offer you have to create a mission statement. This defines you, your business, your team, and everything about what your brand represents, in just a few short sentences. You will live, eat, and sleep your mission statement. So make it a good one!
